Keep Exploring and God Bless
The Bushcraft wall is a very handy and fun bushcraft project that may take a while to make depending on the wall. Yet it can be very helpful in a survival situation. The average wall is set up not only to protect us from theives, rain, etc, but also for cold winds. Just as a normal wall of a house, a bushcraft wall is very helpful for blocking in wind. If you have moss in the area it may be good to use that as an insalator. So allow me to write a peice for you on a short lesson on how to build a bushcraft wall.

The Bushcraft wall is a project that can be used for making a fun bushcraft camp, marking your campsite, or even attempting to keep animals away as much as possible, but it can also be a very important build as it can help to keep away the wind. There are two types of a bushcraft wall that you can make. You can make a wall with one stick going into the wall or a wall with two sticks on the side. With two sticks on the side it blocks more wind while with a one stick wall it still works but is usaly quicker to make and is not as much of a wind blocker but still works well.
Like anything, it can take some practice to form the skills to make a good bushcraft wall. Yet I made a decent one in my first try, as it isnt to hard to make a bushcraft wall, but there is one thing that we I struggled with. The building process was fun and fine, yet it takes a long time to cut down all of those trees. Other than the lots of gathering, to put the sticks that hold up the entire thing in the ground is a farely frustrating task. So let us tackle the options and suggestions I will give to you on how to put together this bushcraft wall. Near the end I may help you with some struggles. (such as putting the sticks in the ground or gathering the mateierals you need)
The two most important things that you will need in the making of the bushcraft wall, is a hatchet (or an axe, whatever you prefer) and of course, some nice sturdy sticks.
So, to make a bushcraft wall, we must start with the basic steps.
As you can see in the first picture, there are some smaller trees. What you want to start doing is cutting down some smaller trees. The amount of trees, or the size of trees that you want to gather may depend on how wide you want your wall to be. You can even find nice sticks that are already downed. You can use dead trees, it is when the wood is very wet and rotten then you dont want to use it, but if a tree is downed and is still rather steurdy it should be good for using. Again, you can lay down two sticks beside eachother or just lay one down and add from there. If you happen to make a wall with two on the side it will take more sticks and more time. The amount of sticks you get depends on how big your wall is. Yet we are going to want four nice, big, studry sticks for the start of our build.
Once you have gathered your four big sticks that you are going to put in the ground and a good amount of smaller sticks for laing down and stacking on eachother you will want to put two of your four bigger sticks into the ground with just enough space to slide in the smaller sticks. In order to do this you need to take something and smack the stick into the ground. This is very hard if you miss a key step. You should take a hathcet or an axe and chop the bottom into a finer spear like shape.
Now that you have choped up the bottom of your stick into a spear like shape you can now put it in the ground much easier than putting it in without making this spear like tip. There are diffrent ways you may prefer to do this, but taking the end of your hatchet, axe, or even a hammer if you have one and hitting the top of the stick until it is just barely in the ground but sturdy enough that it will stand.
Be aware, as some ground in some areas are not the greatest for doing this, not saying you cant do it, but it my be harder to get the walls support stick in the ground. There could be rocks, big roots, or just very tuff ground. Therefore, a very good way to work through this is with a shovel. If you dig a big or small hole in the ground, fill it back in with good dirt, that can be a good way to get it in the ground before you do the next thing. Which is..
Take a big rock or heavy object and smack it hard press on the top of the stick until it is in the ground nice and firm. Do this four times more. Two sticks must be beside eachother with enough space to slide sticks in them and another set of two sticks across from the first two that you made. You should mesure where you need to put the sticks in the ground with your stick. Now just start to slide your sticks in the two support sticks and make them go right through the other two on the other side.
3. Continue to pile up the sticks in beetween the support sticks until it gets as high as you want. (Pictures below are the process)
The thickness of the sticks completley depends on what kind of wall you would like to make. It may get harder as you build it, because the support sticks may strect out in a funky way and mess you up. That is unlikley and it isnt something you should worry about, but if you want to secure it even more than on each side you could tie the sticks together with a strong rope making it a little stronger. I don't usally do it though, and you should be fine.
There you have it, I hope this works out for you and you have fun while building it. Do not be discouraged as it may take some practice and time to figure out how to build it or how you like it, and if you are stumped, again on the top of the article, you can find my YouTube video on how to build the wall. Please, if you have time I would gladly appreciate it if you wanted to check out some of the videos on the channel. As of writing this article I don't have too much for videos and skills. Yet more should be coming very soon Lord willing!
